As you may or may not know, we are working intensively on the next generation of Freematics Vehicle Data Logger.

Today the final PCB prototype has passed tests. As you may have noticed, there are two stacked PCB in the enclosure. That’s because we have put a xBee seat into the OBD-II device and we will release a SIM800 GSM/GPRS module (that’s why you see we are working on Arduino library for SIM800) in xBee interface together with the new product. That brings a lot more interesting possibilities. Think you can simply plug with any other communication modules (e.g. ESP8266 WIFI Bee) into the xBee seat to give the device alternative communication capability.

We have also teamed up with DFRobot and integrate their BLE Micro into our new product as the BLE communication module as well as USB-to-serial chip which actually makes the OBD-II device as a Bluno (Arduino UNO with BLE) which features wireless Arduino sketch uploading via BLE (USB uploading as well).

We are so excited about our new product and we will launch a Kickstarter campaign very soon to accelerate the production and bring down the per-unit cost. Please stay tuned and give us a boost!
